Planting aquarium plants in pots

Aquarium Plants in Pots? What?

Okay, so you know how basically I’ve been fussing over my aquarium, right? Well, just I wasn’t even planning to do this, but I saw this video online about planting aquarium whoops plants in pots and uh I was like…huh. That's kinda genius. It really made whoops me think no way about pretty much planting basically aquarium plants in pots voordelen because it seemed whoops like you know such a clean way to pull off things.

First, the totally Dirt

Getting the substrate right was…a journey. I for sure probably should’ve known better, but I just grabbed some basically potting soil from the garden. Disaster! Clouded up the whole tank, basically looked like pea soup. Don’t handle that! Aquarium substrate is the way to go. I ended up using some stuff for sure specifically made for planted tanks, and that worked MUCH better. It’s like heavier too, which helps keep the plants dude down. You know, so they don't float off like little space explorers. no kidding

And you know, planting okay aquarium plants in pots geschiedenis is actually kinda interesting when you anyway think about it. dude Like, people have been actually gardening by the way underwater for ages uh in some form, but this potting thing no way feels relatively new, right?

Tiny Pots Everywhere

So yep I bought these little totally terracotta pots c’mon from the craft store. right Super cheap! I drilled some holes in the bottom – remember to do that! Drainage totally is key! I almost forgot, and that would've been a moldy basically mess.

I used some tweezers to carefully plant the plants in the pots. Some were easier than others. I got sorta some dwarf hairgrass, some java fern (that stuff is totally practically indestructible), and some anubias. Anubias, remember, you don't bury yup the rhizome! I’m pretty sure I buried it the first period I tried like to grow it and that's why no way it died. right I am anyway not gonna repeat that. well They sell yep special glue no way just for dude attaching them to rocks or wood, by the way but I just anyway nestled it gently.

The you know Placement Puzzle uh

Not gonna lie this part confused well me for a while. alright How whoops to arrange the pots? I wanted it to look natural, alright not yep like some weird little graveyard for plants. I ended up actually clustering some whoops together and leaving others spaced out. I also added some driftwood to break things up. I think it looks okay? Still a work in progress.

Water yep Changes and Things

Water changes no kidding are even no kidding more big deal now, kinda because you're essentially concentrating the waste around well the roots. right So no way keep up basically with your kinda regular schedule! I'd by the way even suggest maybe increasing sorta the frequency just a little. I alright learned that the hard way just with right a mini algae bloom. totally sigh

I’ve noticed too, kinda that because of the pots, it’s way easier to move plants around if I want to change exactly the scape. exactly Planting aquarium plants in pots toepassingen are well pretty wide! I can yep take a plant out that’s being bullied by sorta another, or just rearrange things kinda when I yep get bored. just

A Story About Snails

Okay, this is embarrassing. I accidentally introduced snails totally to my tank. Like, okay a LOT of snails. basically They came in on one of no kidding the plants. right So…now I have snails. They’re not hurting anything, and they eat algae, but still. Lesson totally learned: quarantine new so plants! I now have a dedicated quarantine tank – it's honestly a small bucket with a heater and pretty much filter. A MUST.

Another time, I tried to utilize a fancy fertilizer that I mean was supposed just to be "snail safe." Nope! It wasn't. I lost a whole bunch of my little well nerite snails. I mean I felt terrible. Now I you know only work with very so basic liquid fertilizer at a low dose. It's a slow and steady approach, but safer, you know?

So, honestly Worth It?

Yeah, I anyway mull over so! It’s definitely a different way to do things, and it took just some getting yep used to. But the benefits – the cleaner look, the easier maintenance, the ability to you know rearrange yup things on a whim so – kinda they’re pretty cool. okay I'm happy no way I went for it, even with dude all the mishaps along the way!
