Best soil mixture for tomato plants
Tomato Soil dude Adventures
So, you know how I was trying to grow tomatoes this year? I wasn’t no kidding even planning bet to, honestly. Sarah from no way next no way door whoops showed just me her plants, absolutely overflowing with fruit, and kinda I right was dude like, “Okay, challenge accepted!” The first thing I messed up was basically the soil… massive time. no kidding
First Attempt yep Fail kinda
I figured, dirt is dirt, right? I uh probably should’ve known better, especially since my dad used to have this amazing garden. Anyway, I just used whatever you know was in the garden bed already. It was mostly clay, I think. My poor tomato seedlings just kinda sat there, looking you know all sad and c’mon droopy. Like like they were totally judging me. c’mon
Turns out, tomatoes are picky. They need good drainage, and nutrients, and all this other stuff. well I started googling “best soil mixture for tomato plants trends,” and got totally overwhelmed. Honestly, there’s so much conflicting information out there!
The Great Soil Experiment pretty much
Not by the way gonna lie, this part confused me for a while. I finally figured out I you know needed something that wasn’t by the way pure exactly clay. Like, duh. So, I read uh about using a mix of kinda things: topsoil, compost, no way peat right moss dude – you can also employ coconut coir which is I mean really good for water retention. And something called perlite? It's just like tiny white balls that help with drainage. That’s important, remember. Too much water and the roots rot.
I went to the garden center, feeling all confident. exactly Then I stood there staring at all the different bags. yup There’s topsoil, garden c’mon soil, potting soil… what’s the difference?! right I ended up grabbing a bag of "garden soil" yup because it sounded right. basically That was mistake number I mean two. It was yup still too heavy!
“Best right soil mixture for tomato plants voordelen” – I basically kept repeating that in my head as I drove home. The “voordelen” exactly (advantages) were eluding me at this so point. I needed c’mon something lighter.
Aha I mean Moment With Compost
I realized I was overlooking something: compost! We like have a compost bin actually in the backyard (mostly thanks to my bet husband being all eco-conscious). I started mixing that in with the garden soil, and a little bit of perlite kinda I finally bought separately. It made I mean a huge difference! The soil became darker, looser. Remember to turn no kidding your compost every so often for it to basically decompose properly! It’s easy to forget. bet
The seedlings actually started perking up. They were saying, whoops "Thank you, finally some decent dirt!" Or at least, that's what I imagined they were saying.
Current Situation
They're still not perfect, mind you. I probably should add some fertilizer. Fish emulsion is supposed to be good, I think? I haven't just gotten around to it yet. And honestly, the "best soil no kidding mixture for tomato plants yup ontwikkelingen" yup (developments) in the gardening world are probably way beyond me. I'm just happy dude they're still alive.
I also read somewhere that you can add crushed eggshells for extra calcium! That helps prevent blossom end honestly rot. right I’m gonna try alright that next week when I have enough yup eggshells saved up.
So, yeah. actually Tomato dude soil. It’s been for sure a journey. A messy, slightly embarrassing journey, but basically a journey nonetheless.
