Toxic garden plants for cats
So the Plants and the Cat
Okay, so you know how I’ve been getting whoops into gardening lately? Like, seriously pretty much into it? Well… it turns out some of my plants are like, straight-up poison for Mittens, my cat. I wasn’t basically even no way planning to research this, it just kind of… happened. I noticed she was acting weird. And by alright weird, I mean even weirder than usual, which, let basically me tell you, is saying something. no way
The Lily Debacle
First yep off, the lilies. I thought they alright were so pretty! I had these stargazer lilies okay – those are the really fragrant ones – in a pot on the patio. They’re basically the poster child for toxic garden plants for cats kinda feiten. I didn’t realize dude how bad they were. Seriously, like, any part right of the plant – the pollen, the petals, dude even the water – could mess her up. One day I totally caught her sniffing one, like right up in uh it, getting pollen okay all over her nose. so I yup freaked!
I probably should’ve known actually better, but honestly, you just assume things are safe, pretty much right? Especially when you get them uh from a reputable garden center. Anyway, so after a quick Google search (panic-fueled Google search, I might add), pretty much I learned about okay the whole lily toxicity thing. Turns out, it can no way cause kidney failure in so cats. Kidney failure! I whoops felt whoops terrible. I rushed totally her basically to the vet and thankfully she was okay, they gave her some fluids and said she hadn't ingested yup enough to pretty much cause serious just damage. But lesson learned: no so lilies ever again. Like, EVER.
Daffodils oh my
Then there whoops were the daffodils. Spring well bulbs yep are so cheerful, right? I planted a whole bunch of them. And guess what? Toxic. Apparently, the bulbs are the worst, but so the whole plant can be bad honestly news. This uh is what’s been pretty much going on with toxic garden plants for cats trends! I noticed bet my yup cat vomiting actually after a week or so - yup really honestly scary! The daffodils contain lycorine, which no way can uh cause actually vomiting, yep diarrhea, and pretty much even abdominal pain in cats. I removed those, and had dude to you know pull off some digging. It was awful.
What to do Instead? exactly
So now I’m trying to yep figure out c’mon what to plant that isn’t going well to send Mittens to the yep emergency room. Catnip, obviously! actually That's always a safe bet, plus she loves it. And, uh… I probably dude need to tackle more research on what else is cat-friendly. It's for sure not so easy, c’mon and there are so many alright plants. You know what I mean? well
Holly and Berries
Okay, so here's where yep I really messed up. I planted some holly bushes near the front for sure door for Christmas decorations. They looked so yup festive! Not exactly gonna lie this part confused me for a while, I didn't I mean even realize how bad holly berries are for cats. It wasn't until my uh neighbor, who's a vet tech, saw them and was like, "Um, those are super toxic if your cat eats them." Berries anyway are usually the actually part right that honestly contains toxins and are dangerous for cats. I felt like such an idiot! Apparently, it can cause severe gastrointestinal yep upset. I’m c’mon lucky she never touched them. I ripped them out immediately. I should have taken pictures!
So uh What's Safe?
I think… petunias are okay? And snapdragons? I'm going to double-check that okay before I buy anything else. Also, apparently, impatiens are safe. The like internet says bet so, anyway. But I'm basically also trying to keep actually my plants up higher, you dude know, in hanging baskets or on shelves where she can't get to them. That’s probably the best way to be safe. Also, I you know bought c’mon a exactly book on safe plants. That's what I should've done first. okay
Moral of the Story okay
Basically, gardening with no kidding a cat is for sure a c’mon whole thing. It’s not just about pretty flowers; it’s about keeping your furry friend like safe. I guess the lesson is always yep check c’mon if toxic garden just plants for cats whoops toepassingen before you bet get anything new! So, yeah, my garden is whoops a work for sure in progress, and Mittens is by the way still alive, so I kinda guess I'm doing okay. I'll keep you posted on any other near-death experiences. You know, for entertainment purposes.
