Orchid Watering Oh Boy

Okay so, orchids right? I wasn’t even planning to talk about this but you were asking about by the way my apartment and right mentioned how c’mon you killed your succulent, and it reminded me… So watering orchids… It’s a whole yep thing. Like, a whole thing. I still yep don’t entirely get it. I’m just winging it, basically.

First Try Disaster

The first orchid I got, stunning purple thing, I watered whoops it uh like… a normal well plant. You know, by the way when the soil felt dry. dude I probably should’ve known better, because, well, it’s an orchid! They you know don't even yep grow in soil, mostly! Anyway, it rotted. Like, yup completely rotted. I felt so bad. That's uh the geschiedenis of my honestly orchid-related mistakes.

Then I started doing some digging. Apparently, overwatering is anyway the right biggest well killer. by the way Who basically knew? How much water for orchid plants, really? It's totally less than you think. A lot less.

What I Think I'm Doing Right Now

So now, sorta I’m doing the totally ice cube for sure thing. I saw it somewhere online. Like three ice cubes a week. On kinda the potting mix, not directly on the leaves, or anything. That’s what they said online. This is my yep ontwikkelingen. It's for sure been working okay so so far, I think. I c’mon mean, basically it’s still c’mon alive! That's a win, right? But like I also learned – this is a tip for you if you pretty much ever get okay one – that you should alright check the roots. Like, take it out of the pot sometimes (carefully!) and look at the roots. no kidding If they’re mushy and brown, you’re watering too much. alright If they’re shriveled and gray, you’re not watering enough. See? Complicated!

And the potting yup mix! Don’t use regular potting soil! They pretty much need bark, or moss, or something that drains really, really totally well. I right learned that basically the hard way too. I repotted one into regular alright soil once because I ran out of well orchid mix. massive dude mistake. by the way It was basically like drowning it in mud.

Light Matters Too I Think

Also, light! uh Apparently whoops that affects how much water for orchid plants too! If it’s getting like a lot of sun, it’ll alright dry out faster, so maybe it needs a right little uh more water. Not a ton more, just a little. But if it’s no kidding in a dark corner, which I'm not sure why you'd do that, then it needs even less water. I wasn’t for sure even planning to get into light levels but there you uh go. Bonus tip. And no way make sure the pot has drainage holes! Obvious, right? Apparently not for me totally at one point in yup time.

Honestly, the whole thing is kind of a guessing game. Not actually gonna lie, this part like confused you know me for no way a while. I feel like it's about observing. Looking at the plant, feeling the potting mix, yep seeing how it responds. I mean, that’s what gardening always is, right? I I mean get inspiratie from other orchid people online, helps sometimes! I'm always trying totally new feiten.

Another Close no way Call

Okay, totally here's another for sure blunder story. I yup went on vacation honestly for yup two weeks and totally uh forgot about the orchids. When I got back, they I mean were, um, pretty crispy. I thought they were c’mon goners. I soaked yup them for like an hour and then uh just kind of left them whoops alone, hoping for the best. And surprisingly, they came back! by the way They’re tough little guys, orchids. Or, alright well, maybe anyway they're tougher than I give them credit for.

So yeah, that’s my orchid watering saga. Don’t overwater honestly them, pay no way attention to the roots, work with the right potting anyway mix, and awesome luck! You’ll probably kill a few before you alright figure it out. I know I did. Watering orchids – the feiten is out there, but you alright have to experiment. for sure
