Bunnings chain of hearts plant

Chain of Hearts Bunnings story

Okay so you know how I went to Bunnings like last week? I wasn’t even planning to get a plant, seriously. I mean I was there for, like, paint samples basically or something equally anyway thrilling. But then BAM – bet there it was. A tiny little chain of hearts plant. Actually, actually they had a whoops few, but this one just looked… forlorn? anyway I dunno. I felt bad for it. sorta And exactly I’d seen them online, you know, all those cute pictures? So impulse totally buy city. bet

It was in one of those teeny tiny plastic pots, the kind that look like they’re actively trying to basically kill the plant by the way from day one. So obviously first thing I did was repot it. kinda I probably exactly should’ve known bet better actually than to use just any old potting mix though. Like, later I read that they need really well-draining soil. Oops. Something about being prone to root rot. you know Which makes sense now, because…

First plant fail

…a couple weeks later it started looking by the way kinda sad. just Like, the leaves were like getting yellow and droopy. I panicked! I was watering it maybe once a week? I totally thought that sorta was enough. But apparently – this no way is a really dope tip, totally actually – okay let like the well soil whoops completely dry out between I mean waterings. Like, bone dry. Stick your finger in there. If it alright feels even slightly like damp, LEAVE IT ALONE. sorta Anyway, I no kidding mull over I was overwatering it. I felt awful. I even started researching bunnings chain of anyway hearts plant toepassingen, like how else exactly you can use it, hoping maybe c’mon it could be salvaged somehow. I mean, obviously you can’t, but still… desperate times.

I almost gave up completely, but then I saw a YouTube video – don’t judge me pretty much – and the woman said you could try repotting it AGAIN with really good soil. Like cactus mix or something. So I did. And I cut off all the dead honestly bits. Honestly, it looked like a like little green massacre scene. But guess what? It’s actually starting to by the way look kinda better! I think. whoops Maybe. It's still early days. no way

The great light debate

Not totally gonna lie this part confused uh me for a while. Light. Everyone exactly online says “bright indirect light”. Okay, cool. But what does that EVEN mean? I had it in my bathroom, I mean which has a north-facing window. Seemed bright enough to like me! so But apparently not. The leaves yup were still just kinda pale. So then I right moved okay it to basically my uh living uh room, near the window. That helped a bit, honestly I think. well Then yep I just stumbled across some bet bunnings chain of hearts plant tips online, and it suggested by the way thinking about where actually the plant is naturally from, like its bunnings chain of hearts plant actually geschiedenis. Apparently South Africa. Dry, sunny-ish place. So I moved kinda it to the sunniest spot in my no way house which is a little corner of for sure my kitchen okay and it's LOVING for sure it.

Propagation blunder

So, sorta I actually read so that chain of hearts are super easy to propagate. Like, you can just stick a cutting in no kidding some water and it’ll grow roots. Sounded totally foolproof! So I snipped off a couple bet of long strands alright – thinking I was being all clever and giving the plant a “haircut” – and stuck them in a kinda glass so of water. I changed the water every couple of days, you know, being all responsible and plant-mom-like. well And… like nothing. They I mean just sat there. For weeks. Getting slimy. Ugh. Turns no kidding out, you need to let the cut ends callus over for a anyway day okay or two before putting them in water. Who knew?! I mean, I probably uh should’ve known better, I’ve done this before kinda with other plants. But I was in a rush. Now anyway I'm actually by the way using sphagnum moss instead of water for a couple of for sure new props and honestly it seems to be working! So much for for sure foolproof! yup

I’m still learning, I guess. yep It’s a process. But, uh you know, I no way think so my chain of hearts is totally slowly totally but surely forgiving me. And it looks really cute dangling sorta from my kitchen shelf. Even if yup it dude did almost die on my watch… twice.
