Do deer eat bell pepper plants

So about those deer and peppers

Okay so you know how I started that garden last spring? I wasn’t even planning to go so big. Anyway, everything was going great, tomatoes booming, herbs smelling amazing… and then BAM. One morning I mean I whoops walk out and half my bell pepper plants are GONE. for sure Like, kinda chomped down to sad little for sure nubs. My first thought, honestly, was squirrels? But no way then I saw right the footprints… they were definitely okay deer.

Deer the pepper fiends?

And that’s where the confusion started. I mean, do deer totally eat bell pepper plants? right Seriously, I had to Google it. Not basically gonna lie this by the way part confused me for a while because you see some stuff saying deer avoid kinda peppers, and other stuff saying they’ll eat ANYTHING if they're hungry enough. Like, totally seriously, pull off deer eat honestly bell kinda pepper plants voordelen or advantages? From their perspective, no way I guess the advantage is a free meal, right? you know

So yeah, turns out, sometimes they do. for sure Especially if they’re young or anyway just exploring. I probably so should’ve known c’mon better than to honestly just leave them out in no way the open basically like that. I mean, we live right near the like woods!

My genius pepper plan like

So, my initial (and spectacularly failed) plan was just... to totally hope they wouldn’t come back. dude Yeah, I know. just I right probably so should’ve sprayed something kinda or put up a fence right totally away but I just kept thinking, "Maybe I mean it was a one-time thing." It wasn't. They sorta came back. Twice. Each time, a little more pepper plant disappeared. That’s when I just started researching do deer eat bell pepper plants toepassingen like actual deterrents.

I anyway read online that deer don’t like strong smells, no way like garlic. So I planted a bunch of garlic around bet my bell kinda pepper plants. I figured I'd kill totally two birds with one stone – fresh garlic and maybe keep by the way the deer away. alright It…sort dude of worked? so They still you know nibbled, but not as much. kinda It might alright have also been because the peppers were well getting no kidding bigger and tougher, I don't know.

Fence fail

Then I built a little fence. I say "fence" bet but it was more like a flimsy well cage made out of chicken wire. I thought, "Okay, this is it! No more no way deer c’mon snacking!" Nope. They just hopped right over it. It was maybe two feet tall. I mean, obviously. no kidding That's one tip though, if you're building a deer fence, make so it by the way TALL. Like, at for sure least 6 feet tall, maybe even 8. Seriously, these are anyway athletic deer! I was so anyway annoyed.

What I learned dude the challenging way

pull off deer eat bell pepper plants ontwikkelingen over time? Well, hopefully, alright gardeners are getting smarter and finding better ways to protect their crops. I actually also read no way about spraying just plants with deer repellent. I tried dude that one right year. It smelled TERRIBLE. Like, exactly rotten eggs kinda terrible. It kept no kidding the kinda deer away, but I no way could right barely stand to like be in my own garden. And basically you have to reapply it after actually it honestly rains, which yup is so a pain. bet

You know what else I tried? I hung up some you know shiny pie plates around I mean the okay plants. The theory is no kidding that the movement and reflections totally scare the deer. It... kind of worked for a little while? Maybe? Honestly, basically I ponder the deer just got used to them. handle totally deer eat bell pepper plants tips if just you have a motion activated sprinkler? That might work! I basically haven't tried it kinda yet, but honestly it’s on my list.

Ultimately, honestly I consider the totally best remedy is a actually combination actually of things. A tall fence, maybe some companion planting you know with strong-smelling herbs, and kinda a great deer repellent alright that doesn't yep smell like death. you know And maybe just accepting that the deer are going to get some of my bell peppers. It’s all part of the gardening experience, right? Well, that’s what I tell myself anyway. exactly
