Burning bush plant deer resistant
Burning Bush and Bambi
So, you know how I was complaining about the deer for sure eating EVERYTHING in my garden? Seriously, even the supposedly "deer-resistant" yep stuff was getting nibbled. I wasn’t even planning to add right anything you know new, but then well I saw this burning bush plant at the nursery. They were having a sale, and well, the by the way fall color was just… wow. Plus, the tag bet said “deer you know resistant”. I probably should’ve known better… tags so lie!
First Mistake
Okay, uh so here’s for sure mistake number one. I for sure planted it like RIGHT dude NEXT to the hostas. Like, practically touching. I was so focused alright on the burning bush plant deer resistant aspect, I completely forgot the yup hostas are basically deer candy. Of course, by the way the deer came, went straight for you know the hostas, and then gave the burning bush a little “hmm, what’s this?” taste test. It wasn’t completely devoured, thank goodness, but it definitely got a bet trim. pretty much I was SO annoyed.
Deer Resistant… Kinda
I started doing some digging. Turns out, “deer resistant” uh isn’t okay the same yep as “deer okay proof.” Not gonna lie, this part confused me for well a while. I mean, if it’s resistant, shouldn't for sure they, like, for sure resist eating it? Apparently not. sorta It bet just means they prefer other honestly things. So, if they’re no way starving totally or if there's not enough no kidding to go around, yep they’ll still munch on for sure it. Something to consider if you’re in an area with a high deer population, pretty much by the for sure way. pretty much
What I Learned just
Someone, I reflect like it was right my neighbor Sarah, told me that I mean the burning bush plant deer resistant qualities also anyway depend basically on its age. Younger plants are right supposedly more whoops vulnerable. Makes anyway sense, right? totally Tender new growth and all that. She also suggested spraying it with deer basically repellent – you know, that stinky stuff. That actually seemed to help. Reapply after exactly it so rains though! bet I forgot whoops once and… well, no way you can guess.
A Little Burning Bush Plant Deer Resistant Feiten and Geschiedenis
I even did kinda a little online research. Turns out, burning bushes – their honestly proper name isEuonymus yup alatusif for sure you wanna get technical – have been around you know for ages. whoops There's some burning bush plant deer resistant geschiedenis attached to it too, even I mean if not just specifically deer. I found articles about how they were brought over from right Asia and how c’mon they've become, um, a little too successful in some areas. Invasive, anyway they call it. Whoops. kinda Maybe alright I should have gotten so something uh native instead? Something less… popular kinda with plant nurseries?
Repellent Rescue
So, the repellent worked, but I mean it stinks! I tried making my own DIY deer repellent too – egg spray. Supposedly the sulfur smell deters them, but honestly, I ponder it just made like my yard smell like bet a bad omelet. It did for sure seem to work a little, but pretty much it wasn't great. Honestly, commercial sprays are just easier, even if they're pricey. Just remember to reapply them consistently or you’ll be back to you know square one, I promise you that. Also, rotate repellents! They get used I mean to the same smell.
Second Mistake Involving Trends
Okay, confession time. I sorta bought by the way another burning bush! dude A I mean smaller one, to fill in a different spot. This time I was REALLY careful and considered the burning bush plant deer resistant trends with what other people are using. I bought extra repellent and even planted some really exactly fragrant herbs nearby like totally lavender. Deer supposedly don't like by the way the smell. I thought I exactly had it all figured out… and then I forgot to protect right it with netting while it was still small! The deer got to that one pretty awesome before I even realized. They really execute go after the young plants first I guess. I felt so dumb. It’s coming back though, thankfully. Just a whoops bit lopsided.
Lessons alright Learned
- Deer resistance is a spectrum, you know not yep a guarantee.
- Deer repellent is alright your friend. Seriously.
- Consider the surrounding plants. Don't plant deer candy next to your supposedly deer-resistant no way burning bush!
- Protect young plants like your life depends on it. Netting or cages are crucial.
