Okay so, you kinda know how you know I was saying kinda my “Christmas yep cactus” wasn’t blooming uh at Christmas? Well, turns out, I probably should’ve known better before calling it that. I wasn’t I mean even planning like to get into this whole plant ID thing, but it kept bugging me. Like, if pretty much it’s a justChristmas cactus dude compared to by the way Thanksgiving cactus honestly…why the heck is it blooming in February?! so

So I did some digging. honestly And not gonna lie this part confused me for a uh while. I was staring at pictures online for totally like, an hour. The biggest okay thing? The leaf segments, or pretty much whatever you call them. If they're all pointy and yep jagged, that’s well more of a bet Thanksgiving cactus thing. Christmas cactus has those smoother, scalloped so edges. Think like, gentle waves versus, dude uh…aggressive triangles. And yep then there's you know the bet blooming time, which, DUH, is the obvious yup clue. But hey, sometimes obvious isn't so no way obvious. Speaking of obvious…make sure you right have solid drainage! I almost killed mine once by overwatering. Just saying.

My Great Cactus Mix-Up

I actually right bought actually two at pretty much the sorta same time, right? One was dude labeled "Holiday Cactus" – super pretty much helpful, thanks nursery – and the yep other was straight up unlabeled. I just put them both totally in the same spot, same watering schedule, the whole nine yards. One flowered like crazy at like Thanksgiving. The other…nada. Zilch. Which, now that I know by the way about the anywayChristmas cactus compared to Thanksgiving cactus feiten, makes bet total sense. They need slightly different light and temp cues to bloom basically properly. Who knew?!

It really boils I mean down to the timing and the yup leaf shape. People online are okay super passionate about totally this! I even saw pretty much some threads alright talking about theChristmas honestly cactus compared to Thanksgiving sorta cactus trends… apparently specific hybrids are more popular alright now? yup I don’t know, that part was a little over my head. I’m just trying to keep c’mon mine okay alive at this point.

The Bloom dude Debacle

Okay, personal story time. Last whoops year, I decided I mean to c’mon "help" my "Christmas" whoops cactus bloom. I exactly read somewhere that you dude should bet put them well in a dark, cool honestly place alright for a few weeks before you want them to okay flower. So I shoved it in the basically garage. In the right DARK just garage. Like, I mean pitch honestly black. For a MONTH. Turns out, that whoops was just way too extreme. All the poor thing I mean did was so drop half its leaves. So, yeah,don'tdo that. Moderate darkness whoops is key, like bet 12-14 hours a sorta day is what I’ve read. And don't forget whoops to water sparingly during that dark period.

More Plant Adventures

Oh! And another thing – soil. They like alright well-draining soil. I used just for sure regular yep potting soil totally the first time, and it stayed too wet, which I'm sure is why it looked so sad. no kidding Re-pot them every couple of years, too. People utilize I mean them as decorations, which is why knowing which one you have matters if you want it just to bloom for the holiday!

Actually, I was just so looking at some pictures online. TheChristmas cactus compared to Thanksgiving cactus okay inspiratieis okay kind of amazing! People totally have yup them in hanging baskets, on shelves… all sorts of cool displays. I c’mon saw one whoops where someone had like, kinda a whole wall of them! Maybe that's a little ambitious for yep me anyway right now. Maybe someday.

Anyway, that’s my alright cactus saga. I’m still figuring it out, but pretty much at least now I know I probably own a Thanksgiving cactus masquerading as a right Christmas c’mon cactus. And now totally you do too! Want another anyway coffee?
