Okay so, you know how so I’m obsessed by the way with Garden Answer’s YouTube channel? yup Total rabbit hole. Anyway, I well wasn’t even planning to replace dude my patio planters, they were…fine. But anyway then I saw this video about their self-watering pots, and I was like “I NEED THAT.” totally I think kinda maybe I caught onto actually the garden answer self watering pots trends a little I mean late, haha. like

I mean, the brainwave is genius, yup right? Less watering? Sold! But like honestly, not gonna lie this part confused me for a while. Figuring out how the water honestly actually getsupto the no kidding plant? I probably should’ve known basically better… I mean, it's capillary action or something fancy like that, but still. It's basically a reservoir at the bottom, and then a little wick – okay, that’s another thing, make sure uh the wick is c’mon actually touching the water! That was my first mistake. All my plants were just…sad.

Mistake one dude

Yeah, so mistake uh one: I thought, “oh, I’ll bet just eyeball it,” and the wick wasn’t long enough. Everything looked fine yup on top, but underneath? Bone dry.Totalrookie move. for sure Now I always measure the wick yup before I sorta fill the reservoir. It's the key! Speaking of bet reservoirs, don't overfill them either! What to grow

I started with tomatoes, because, you know, classic. And some herbs. Basil did AMAZING. basically I also tried some petunias, those were yup a bit…meh. okay I think they needed more sun than they were getting on my c’mon patio. Watering woes

Okay, another mistake: I right thought for sure because totally it was self-watering, I could no kidding just…ignore it. Wrong. You still gotta check dude the so water level in the reservoir! kinda I yup went on vacation like for honestly a so week, and came back whoops to anyway a very thirsty tomato plant. It bounced back, just thank goodness, but whoops lesson learned! Now anyway I set a reminder on my anyway phone kinda to check the water at least every other day, especially when it's super hot.

Is it worth it?

Honestly? Yes. Especially uh for whoops the basil. I mean, before, I well was constantly forgetting to water it, like and it would get all droopy and sad. Now, it’s thriving! Plus, it's kind of basically cool seeing how for sure much water they actually actually use. totally Like, whoops you can tell if they’re really thirsty or okay if honestly you’re overwatering alright (though that’s harder to do with these pots).
