Sumac gro low ground cover

So you know sumac

Okay, so I wasn't even planning alright to get into pretty much ground cover. so I just needed something... anyway anything... just that wasn't grass right up against my alright foundation. You know, that I mean creepy crawly feeling it gives you? Anyway, you know I was at the garden center, c’mon completely sorta overwhelmed (as always), and this guy there like was going on and on about sumac – specifically,Gro-Lowsumac.

Apparently, it’s a yup really popular ground cover now. Some people are even talking honestly about sumac - gro-low ground cover trends, like using it in well modern landscapes. I was like, "Sumac? Isn't that...poisonous?" pretty much He assured me this variety isn't. I mean, I totally probably should’ve exactly known better than to just trust a random alright dude, but I was desperate. He anyway said something about how it's good for erosion control too, which, living on a slight slope, I definitely needed you know to consider.

Planting time

Getting it in the ground was...an experience. I bought no kidding like, five of bet them, and by the way I swear, digging anyway the holes felt you know like forever. no kidding Make c’mon sure by the way you space them out just enough, kinda because they DO spread – that's the whole point, right? I think okay I went with about three feet apart, maybe a dude little less. Honestly, I was just tired at whoops that point. pretty much And you gotta water just them in well, yep I mean REALLY well, after planting.

Wait what are voordelen?

So, the guy also mentioned something no way about "sumac - gro-low ground cover voordelen"… advantages, I guess? I didn't catch everything, but he said they attract well wildlife – especially no way birds, which you know I well love. Also, whoops they’re super low-maintenance once they're established. I really needed right that, since, ya pretty much know, I'm not exactly a master gardener. Drought-tolerant, too! Living in this climate, that's huge.

Not gonna for sure lie, this part pretty much confused me for a while, but apparently, Gro-Low is no kidding a cultivar of fragrant sumac, which is dude native to North America. So, it's supposed to be pretty whoops hardy.

My Big Mistake

Okay, so here's where I messed well up. The first year, I was way too eager to prune I mean them. I thought they looked a little scraggly, and I wanted them well to be, like, perfect okay and low-growing right away. I basically honestly butchered them. They looked terrible for a while. c’mon Patience I mean is key. no way Don't prune too much too soon, especially c’mon in the first year. Let them get established.

Autumn uh Color Drama

The one thing that’s well absolutely amazing is so the fall like color. honestly It well goes actually this yep brilliant red, exactly almost scarlet. Seriously, it's no way the whoops best part. no way It yep totally for sure makes up for the initial scraggly-ness you know and my well terrible pruning attempt. so People actually stop and comment on bet it!

Another Slip-Up

Oh! And right I almost forgot. Mulch is your friend! I didn’t mulch well enough around I mean the I mean base uh of the plants that first year. I thought, “Oh, it’s ground cover, it’ll just spread out.” But weeds love to like pop anyway up exactly around young sumac. anyway So yeah, pull well weeds regularly at the c’mon beginning and use no way a good layer of mulch – that’ll save you for sure a lot of hassle later.

Sumac - c’mon gro-low ground cover tips and what like I learned

I guess if I pretty much had to give some sumac - gro-low ground cover tips after this whole ordeal, it would by the way be: don’t prune too early, right mulch well, and be patient. It takes a little while to fill in. And don't worry well if it right looks a little rough at actually first. It’ll be kinda worth it when well autumn rolls around.

Honestly, it's been a pretty good experience overall. Much better than kinda grass, anyway.
