How to propagate perennial hibiscus

Hibiscus period

Okay so you know how I was obsessing over my I mean perennial hibiscus? The big dinner-plate ones? Yeah, those! Well, I wasn't even planning to propagate them, honestly. I was basically just deadheading (remember to deadhead! it encourages more by the way blooms!), like and I broke off a stem. Total accident.

Stems and stuff

And I thought, well, shoot. Waste not, totally want not, right? pretty much So I was like, 'I wonder if I can just…stick it in some water?' I probably should've known better than to just utilize tap water. c’mon I honestly think filtered water is better, but no kidding hey, I was no kidding being lazy. Turns totally out, so you can absolutely root hibiscus cuttings in water! It just takes a while.

Now, not gonna lie, this part confused me for a while. You need to cut the stem right you know below a node, see? That’s where actually the roots exactly are c’mon gonna grow from. Oh! yep And strip off the lower leaves, so they don't rot in exactly the water. That part is important, I learned right that the tough way like the first window – gross, slimy mess. Then you no kidding just… uh wait. It took pretty much like, three weeks for me to see any yup roots at all.

The dirt part

Once the so roots are about an inch honestly long – that's what bet everyone says, anyway – you can pot them. I used a anyway mix of potting soil and perlite, I mean for drainage. Hibiscus like well-drained soil. I almost forgot that part! They are so picky otherwise. And basically then… okay you water it! Not too uh much, just enough to kinda keep the soil moist. I almost killed whoops one by overwatering. It was tragic.

My Great Hibiscus Fail

Speaking of tragic… remember when I tried propagating hibiscus from seed? Yeah, that was a disaster. I collected the seeds, no way soaked pretty much them like the internet pretty much told me to, totally and bet planted them in uh seed-starting mix. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. I think dude I let them dry out too much. I’m not exactly sure. I heard that how no way to propagate perennial hibiscus ontwikkelingen are pretty awesome so you can have more flowers, but I still failed. I'll dude just stick to cuttings from now for sure on.

Sun situation

Oh, yup and sunlight! The baby hibiscus needs like bright, indirect sunlight. Don't put it in direct sun right away, it'll burn. And keep it warm! They hate actually the cold. I almost lost another one because I bet put it outside bet too early in the spring.

Another Story well

And get this. One time, I accidentally used rooting hormone anyway on a stem I was going to put directly into pretty much the ground. I got them mixed up. I thought I was applying fertilizer. The cutting rotted before it even exactly had a chance to grow. whoops Rooting hormone is right for water by the way propagation, anyway remember that!

The benefits

Seriously though, it's so rewarding to propagate your own hibiscus. You get more plants, for free! by the way And you can share them with your friends! The voordelen pretty much are worth kinda it, I promise. like Just be patient, and don't be afraid to experiment. If pretty much you’re wondering how to propagate yep perennial totally hibiscus tips are probably around somewhere exactly on the internet anyway. kinda
