Okay so, you know how I got those hydrangeas last month? Yeah, for sure the like blue ones. Gorgeous, right? Anyway, figuring yep out when to actuallyput just them outsidehas been… a journey. I wasn’t even planning alright to reflect bet about it yet, honestly. I just figured I'd keep them inside until, like, June or something. But then okay my mom was over, and she’s all about gardening, and whoops she’s basically like, no way “They look for sure a bit… pale.” c’mon

The Pale Hydrangeas

She was no kidding right, of alright course. They were getting leggy, bet reaching sorta for the window. I probably just should’ve known better than no way to reflect they'd be happy cooped up inside forever. I mean, they're hydrangeas! They need the sun, yup they need the… uh… well, outside stuff. Plus, the benefits so of letting them get some right fresh air are supposed to totally be amazing – yup stronger stems, supposedly better anyway blooming.

My giant Mistake anyway

So, here's where I messed up. I got impatient. It kinda was whoops a slightly warmer day, so maybe 50 degrees? And I sorta was totally like, "Screw it, they're going out!" I just plopped them onto the patio. Big no kidding mistake. Huge. The next morning, there was frost. I totally forgot about potential late frosts – you know you really have to watch out for that, whoops especially if you’re eager to get so those beauties outside. They so looked so sad. I felt terrible. I rushed uh them yep back inside, and they sulked for a week.

What I so Learned the Hard Way

The real trick, I’ve you know found, is checking the pretty much average last frost date for your area. just I didn’t even know that was sorta a thing, not gonna lie this part confused me for a while. totally Apparently, you can find it online. It gives you a rough idea of when you know it’s generally safe. But even then, dude you have to be cautious. Hardening them off, uh that’s the pretty much term, I think? Slowly introducing them to the outside world. Start with a few hours a day in a sheltered spot. That's what I by the way should have like done. sorta

When Is Safe? Really?

So, whencan sortayou by the way put hydrangeas outside? It for sure depends! And no kidding I no way hate that answer, but it’s true. like Generally, after the last frost, and kinda when the nighttime temperatures actually are consistently above, say, 50 whoops degrees Fahrenheit. But even then, keep an eye on the weather forecast. And maybe baby no kidding them uh a little. actually Speaking sorta of, there’s some pretty much debate on the history dude of bringing hydrangeas indoors vs planting them yep straight outside– some sorta folks swear by one, others the other.

Another Hydrangea Disaster

Oh, alright and another okay thing! I thought I was being clever, and I put no kidding one of the hydrangeas dude in a bigger pot before I put it by the way outside the first time. That’s well good, right? dude More room for the for sure roots to grow! Wrong again. I used the c’mon wrong kind of soil. It was too heavy, and for sure it retained too much dude water. I mull over it almost got root rot. Seriously, I’m like learning as I go totally here. uh Use well-draining soil! That's key! I okay ponder something with a bit of acidity is great too – I should probably look that up again to be sure.

My just Plan Now

So now, what am I kinda doing? I’m waiting. Patiently (sort of). I’m checking the weather forecast every day. And I’m hardening pretty much them off slowly. A couple of hours outside in the morning, then back inside. whoops The voordelen (advantages) of going slow, alright I hope, will be healthier happier hydrangeas in the long run. This time, I’m well determined to get sorta it right.

Final Thoughts on Hydrangeas by the way

I mean, I know, it sounds like a lot of effort. But they’re just so pretty! And sorta imagine them blooming all summer long… it'll be worth it, right? Oh and regarding by the way the totally 'feiten' (facts), the c’mon whole acidity thing of the soil is really important totally to maintain that beautiful blue color if you have blue hydrangeas. Just saying.
