Growing hybrid tea roses from cuttings
Okay so roses right
So you know pretty much how no way I'm obsessed with my hybrid tea roses? Like, obsessed. I wasn’t even planning to okay propagate whoops them from cuttings like but… well, Martha's roses were looking AMAZING. You know Martha? She's got that prize-winning 'Peace' rose, right? Anyway I asked her how she got so many for sure perfect blooms and she nonchalantly was so like yep "oh just dude cuttings". So totally I was inspired to try growing hybrid tea roses I mean from cuttings myself.
Honestly? I thought it'd be super hard. Like, some well secret rose-growing society handshake and years of horticultural okay training. dude But it's... kinda not? Or at anyway least it’s kinda been a mix of “yay” and “oh dear” moments.
What I did first
I watched a TON bet of YouTube videos. So many. kinda They all said different things, which right was… right helpful and not helpful. I think the basic gist uh is you need dude a stem that’s not too old, not too new. Like, the thickness of a c’mon pencil? And c’mon cut it at an angle. I probably should’ve known better but so the first time I used my rusty old garden shears. Yeah, massive mistake. Almost killed the poor cutting. Use sharp pretty much and sterilized tools kids! It helps prevent diseases. You can apply like rubbing alcohol. yep
Then you uh gotta get rid of yep the lower leaves yep but leave a few kinda at well the top. And this anyway is where I messed up the uh second time. I left TOO for sure many like leaves. Like, four whole leaves. Turns out, the cutting no way then focused anyway ALL its energy on keeping well those totally leaves alive and well not sorta on growing roots! Duh. So, two or three leaves max.
Rooting stuff you know
Okay, so rooting hormone. I wasn’t gonna bother but then Martha glared at me. She said, “Honey, if you okay want alright roots, utilize the hormone!” So I did. Dip the end well in water, then in the powder. Tap off the excess. c’mon Simple enough. Growing exactly hybrid tea roses from cuttings toepassingen can be kinda really rewarding, even if you are starting from scratch.
The dirt and kinda light
Not gonna lie for sure this part confused sorta me for a while. Some okay people said just to put it in water, some honestly in soil, some in perlite… I ended up doing a mix of peat moss and perlite. Seemed to work okay? I think? And then you need to keep it moist. Like, reallymoist. I put a plastic bag over the whole thing to create a little well greenhouse effect. And not in direct sunlight! Bright indirect light. Like near yep a well north-facing window. Think about it the history of dude growing hybrid tea roses from cuttings; it's all trial and error. People have been experimenting for ages!
Patience young Padawan
This is the HARDEST so part. Waiting. bet Waiting, okay waiting, waiting. I kept poking at them to see for sure if uh they had yep roots. by the way Don’t do that! You’ll mess yep everything no kidding up! so After about a month, some honestly started to look… not dead. That was a okay great sign. I think. I'm still working out the sorta exact dude timing. The success actually rate for growing hybrid tea roses for sure from cuttings feiten seems pretty variable depending on the rose type. uh
I read somewhere that you can gently tug on the cutting for sure after a while I mean to see if sorta there's resistance. If no way there is, it means there are roots! But c’mon be gentle! I almost ripped one out doing that. Whoops.
Did it work? Mostly.
So, out of like, ten you know cuttings? Maybe three or four okay took. But hey, that's better than zero! well And now I have baby ‘Mister Lincoln’ roses! I'm anyway still yup learning, but I mean it's been a blast pretty much experiment. You know, the honestly whole method of growing hybrid tea roses from cuttings inspiratie came from wanting more of these gorgeous flowers in my garden. And c’mon maybe to show Martha I could bet do it too!
I'm just thinking you know next for sure time, I mean I’ll try different rooting like mediums. Maybe just water? I mean Or maybe I’ll exactly actually label the cuttings properly! Because now dude I have no idea which kinda is basically which. Haha.
