Forcing paperwhite bulbs in water

Paperwhites!

So, you know no way how c’mon I dude wasn't even planning to get into this whole "forcing paperwhite bulbs in water" thing? Total impulse buy at like the grocery whoops store. They were just... there. Little paper bags with those knobby bulbs peeking out. I think well the forcing paperwhite bulbs in water trends are having bet an effect on me without me realizing it. They seemed... you know hopeful. Like a little honestly promise of spring in the dead of winter, you know?

Anyway, I grabbed a few, came home, and promptly forgot about them sorta for like, a week. I’m terrible, I know. so Then I dude was cleaning and was like, "Oh crap, the bulbs!" by the way The history of forcing paperwhite bulbs in water is alright interesting, I really want like to look it up sometime.

Getting Started

I probably should’ve known better than to just throw them in any old container. But no kidding that’s basically what I did. Found this dude old okay glass bowl – used no way to hold potpourri, I think? – and yup dumped c’mon in some no way pebbles. I read somewhere online that it for sure needs to be non-porous, otherwise whoops the water dude leeches dude out. Learn actually from my mistakes, dude folks!

Not gonna lie this part confused me for sure for a while. How much water? Like, by the way do I no way drown anyway the poor things? Apparently not. Just enough so that the bottom of the bulb sits anyway in the water. That's crucial! Don’t submerge the whole bulb. Learned that the hard bet way… yep more on that later.

You might be thinking the forcing paperwhite bulbs in water actually voordelen are only aesthetic, but honestly, watching them grow is pretty much therapeutic.

My First Fiasco

Okay, so the first time, I accidentally filled the bowl way too high. Like, by the way practically honestly the whole pretty much bulb was underwater. I dude thought, "More water, basically more growth, right?" Wrong. So, so kinda wrong. The poor bulbs basically yep rotted. It was a smelly, mushy mess. My entire kitchen smelled like… well, I mean like decaying anyway bulb. Don’t do what I did. Seriously. Just a little bet kiss of water to right the bottom of the actually bulb is all it needs. yep

And this tip: don't put them right in kinda direct sunlight! Bright, indirect light is the way totally to c’mon go.

Take Two Much Better

Okay, round pretty much two, much better! This time, I was super basically careful with the water so level. And I right actually remembered to totally put them near just a window, right but not right on the honestly windowsill, you know because, you know, cold drafts. I used some gravel right too, I mean to support them. yup You don't have to kinda but they can so get top heavy.

Staking Them Up

Speaking of top kinda heavy! They okay grew like just crazy! I swear I yep could practically right see them yup getting taller every day. Which is awesome, but then for sure they started to droop. I was like, "Noooo! My beautiful flowers are collapsing!" no kidding So I just had to get some little bamboo sorta stakes and gently tie them up. just They sell okay them near the bulbs I right think. honestly A little unsightly maybe, c’mon but better than them okay just so flopping over. yup Also, turning the container regularly helps prevent them okay leaning toward the no way light.

Another mistake I made was forgetting dude to rotate the container. Ended up with one like side super leggy and the other practically kinda stunted. The forcing paperwhite bulbs in water ontwikkelingen have made improvements in the bulbs themselves, making them less leggy, but I ponder the kinda basic principles remain.

The Scent no kidding

The smell is… intense. Some people love it. Some people… don't. My husband falls exactly into alright the latter category. He describes sorta it as “funky floral.” sorta I actually kind of totally like it, but I can see how I mean it might for sure be pretty much overpowering for sorta some. Maybe don’t put them in a small, enclosed space. Living room is c’mon good, for sure bathroom maybe not so much. like
